The purpose of the conference was to provide participants with relevant examples of effective classroom practices for implementing the Common Core standards in the curriculum. Presentations reflected the unpacking of standards to show how educators can utilize the standards in lessons by creating engaging learning opportunities (experiences) and relevant assessments that will prepare students to be college and career ready. Participants were actively engaged in learning new ideas; improving teaching; finding useful strategies to enhance learning and sharing their ideas for utilizing the Common Core Standards. Chancellor Tim Hudson greeted the audience on Behalf of ASU. Dean Thilla Sivakumaran welcomed the panel from Arkansas Department of Education as well as participants. The conference planning team was comprised of Teacher Education faculty and Department Chair; ITTC staff members; ERZ staff members; Rural and Delta STEM Education Centers as well as Crowley’s Ridge and Northeast Educational Cooperatives. Dr. Johnson-Leslie chaired the conference committee and Teacher Education is looking forward to their second Teacher Education Common Core Conference in the fall of 2013.
